Meet the Team: Thomas Martin

NephōSec wouldn’t be what it is without the amazing team behind it. For this reason, we are starting the new series, “Meet the Team.” Join us every Friday to learn in detail who the NephōSec team is and what makes us passionate about the work we do.
This week, we are featuring our founder and CEO, Thomas Martin.
Background
Most people know Thomas from his background at GE. After earning an engineering degree in Marine Ship Repulsion Engineering from Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Thomas began his career with General Electric. His training in computer technologies naturally evolved into a passion for automation that followed him throughout his career.
With a wealth of knowledge and experience under his belt, Thomas left GE in 2017 to found Big Co. Small Co. — the company that would eventually become NephoSec. He began Big Co. Small Co. with the goal to bring innovative technology to big company enterprises, but found that the majority of the work they were doing centered around the transformational effort of going to the cloud.
For this reason, Big Co. Small Co. made the decision to rebrand as NephōSec in April of 2020 in order to focus on ensuring that clients can deploy cloud infrastructure in secure and compliant ways.
Power in passion
There’s a lot that motivates Thomas, but his main source of motivation is a passion for sharing knowledge and helping others, and this is evident in all he does.
NephōSec was created in order to help companies take advantage of all benefits cloud provides — and to do so not as a one-time help, but as an integrated partner invested in the journey of maturity as companies adopt cloud.
Thomas also continues a passion for teaching through maintaining a collaborative and inviting company culture. He emphasizes work as a place to learn, explore, and have fun in order to bring our best not just to work every day, but to our clients overall.
Additionally, Thomas has brought on two interns to join the NephōSec team because he believes in the importance of investing in young talent and education.
Work hard play hard
While Thomas is passionate about his work, he makes sure to have fun and enjoy time outside the office.
After years of living in Florence, Italy, Thomas has developed conversational fluency in Italian, a love of good italian cooking, and a plethora of stories of his time in Italy.
Thomas is also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and can be found piloting a plane (or building one) when not at work.
Above all, Thomas is passionate about his family. When he’s not working, he’s almost always spending time with his fiancé and their three kids.
The key takeaway? Thomas, and all of us at NephōSec, are passionate about what we do.
